Uploading Pages and Information to your Personal Website

To create pages and upload them to your personal website, you will need to programs. One to create pages and one to Upload them to make them viewable by others.

There are many programs on the internet to create, edit and manage web pages. Many can be found at www.download.com. Some are free and some require a small registration fee.

When designed your website, there are a few simple things to remember.
1. Don't add to many pictures to a single page. Remember, the more pictures on a pages means it will load slower. The personal viewing it might get frustrated and simply leave without viewing it.
2. When uploading your website, The default page is always index.html. The reason for this is so the person viewing it doesn't have to type in ~
www.youbetnet.net/~username/page1.html. The webserver knows that if there is a index.html in that directory, this page is the default home page. So the person can type in ~www.youbetnet.net/~username/ and your page will pop up.

Once you have designed your personal site, you now have to upload it to your personal website. Any standard ftp client will work. We recommend using "WS_Ftple." It's a very simple program for downloading and uploading via ftp. You can download it here.
